Garretson Volunteer Fire Department
The Garretson Fire Department was established in 1896 and officially adopted
in 1901. Equipment at that time consisted of a hose cart with ladders,
a water tank and lots of pails. In 1923, the department purchased its first
motorized apparatus. Over the years the department’s territory has grown to
include roughly 100 square miles in Minnehaha County, South Dakota and
Rock County, Minnesota. The department has been located in its current station
since 1986 and currently operates the following apparatus: 1 Engine, 1
Engine/Tender, 1 Tender, 1 Rescue and 1 Wildland Grass Rig.
