Lyons Volunteer Fire Department
The Lyons Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1977 with a 1961 Dodge truck and ten members. In 1980, the department built a 1974 Ford chassis into a 500
gallon mini-pumper. Membership grew to 15, and the rescue squad was formed. In 1982 the department added a 1,400-gallon tanker and an addition to the building where
the vehicles are held. In 1984 the original 4x4 was built into a 1000-gallon-per-minute pumper, now known as Engine #1. The department has members who are Emergency
Medical Technicians (EMTs), who are trained with 81 hours of emergency medical training and refresher courses every two years. There are also first responders in our
department.
